Meeting:	North Star SHRM Chapter Meeting
Date:	October 13, 2008 8:00 a.m.

Meeting was opened by President Bruce Tyler with group introductions. Our training today was a SHRM program: "Trust Travels: The Starbucks Story". One hour of PHR/SPHR strategic recertification credit will be available for those individuals attending. This video presentation is available for individuals to check out and use within their companies. If interested, contact Bruce Tyler

The following agenda items were discussed in the business portion of meeting:

• Bruce advised of the need for a president elect for next year and encouraged members to consider this position.
• Our next meeting will be a joint meeting with the St. Cloud Chapter on Thursday, September 18, 2008. The meeting will be held at the Blackberry Ridge Golf Course (3125 Clubhouse Rd. W., Sartell 320-257-4653) with lunch, speaker and a golf outing. Nancy L.Volpe, SPHR will present .Ten HR Challenges That Should Keep You Up At Night.. Cost for lunch only is $10.00 and Golf is $23.50 (33.50 for both). Bruce sent out registration information to NS SHRM members in August or you can go to the St. Cloud SHRM website http://cmshrm.shrm.org.
• A DVD from Minnesota SHRM was played promoting the October MN State SHRM Conference. Discussion was held regarding the return of a portion of the registration fee from state council for 100% chapters. Bruce asked that everyone remember to check the NS SHRM box when registering for the MN Conference.
• A motion was made and passed to accept the June meeting minutes.
• Treasurer reported a balance as of 7/31/08 of $5,910.78.
• Bruce advised the October meeting on Contract Employees may be cancelled due to a conflict.
• Discussion held regarding the chapter providing funds for membership renewals to unemployed members or those unable to received company sponsorship. Discussed the need to monitor requests and to develop a form for individuals to complete. The request would need to be submitted to the Board for approval. Sandy Fouquette volunteered to develop a form. A motion was made to allow the chapter to fund up to $600 annually for this use. Motion was seconded and passed. Additional discussion was held regarding certification and the fact that National SHRM has scholarships available to individuals to request.
• Discussion on the donation of a basket for the October MN State Conference was held. Bruce indicated that last year's basket was a big hit and a decision was made to keep the same outdoor theme. A request for donation items was made to members. Jan Trushenski is the point of contact. A motion was made to allow up to $50 additional money to be spent on the basket if needed. Motion was seconded and passed.
• Bruce advised that a Board meeting had been held during July, with Bruce, Sandy Fouquette, and Rhonda Klein in attendance to discuss CAPS requirements. Bruce will be sending out additional information regarding the areas that our chapter will need to work on.
• Prize drawings were held.
• No additional items presented for discussions.
