MEETING MINUTES

Meeting:	North Star SHRM Chapter Meeting
Date:	February 11, 2009 8:00 a.m.

Listed below is a recap of the items discussed at the last Chapter meeting:

Meeting was opened by President Sandy Fouquette. Bruce Tyler introduced today's guest speaker: Tammy Friederichs, with Friederichs & Thompson, P.A., presenting "Independent Contractor, Status, Trends and Pitfalls". One hour of PHR/SPHR recertification credit will be available for those individuals attending.

The following agenda items were discussed in the business portion of meeting:

• A motion was made and passed to accept the January meeting minutes.
• Sandy informed members that the chapter received a check in the amount of $147.00 from Job Dig for the utilization of their services by member's companies. Sandy thanked those using this service on our behalf.
• Discussion was held regarding the Becker Business Expo held on January 24th. It was reported that we have two potential contacts resulting from our participation. The expo was not was busy as past years. Elk River Expo will be coming up on March 29th at the High School and Bruce or Sandy will be there from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
• Bruce and Sandy attended the State Leadership Conference which was informative.
• Sandy reported that Liberty Paper will be hosting a Diversity seminar on February 20th from 9:45 to10:45 at the Becker Middle School. If anyone is interested in attending they should notify Sandy.
• We are still looking for a Diversity Director for our chapter. Please let Sandy know if you are interested.
• TCHRA is sponsoring HR Games on Saturday, March 28th from 7 am to 5 pm. They are looking for volunteers.
• Jan Trushenski read a letter received from the SHRM Foundation regarding NorthStar's Gold Medal for 2008 and the Champion Chapter designation logo we are able to use. Jan will email this logo to Sandy for use on our website.
• Discussion was held regarding the SHRM website reformat and also that the MN SHRM website is being redone. It is now a .com vs. an .org.
• A copy of our Bylaws was passed out to present members for review and discussion next month.
• Discussion was held regarding the September joint meeting with the St. Cloud chapter. Bruce had emailed speaker options out to our members, with a majority responding they preferred #3. -ETHICAL ISSUES IN HUMAN RESOURCES. St. Cloud has indicated they would prefer option #2 - FUTURE BUSINESS TRENDS FOR HR MANAGEMENT. Bruce will encourage #3 on our behalf.
• Treasurer reported a checking balance of $4,633.64 as of January 31st.
• Discussion was held regarding the Chapter's CAP Report. Sandy advised that it was available on the SHRM site and encouraged members to review it and see if there were any areas in which companies were involved.
• Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 to be held at the Wellstead of Rogers at 8:00 am. Jan Trushenski will provide directions at a later date. Our speaker will be on Data Breach and Identity Theft presented by Dianne Cutter, PSQ Systems.

Legislative Update:

• Janet Ampe updated us on the passage of Ledbetter Act. Sandy encouraged members to become active in their letter writing.
• Janet reminded members that the Upper Midwest Employment Law conference would be coming up in May and that this was a very good source for information for Human Resources professionals.
